Biography

Teo Lien (b. 2004) is a Norwegian cellist currently studying under Professor Pieter Wispelwey at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. He is currently based in Amsterdam and has an active performing career as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral player.

Among his major achievements are solo performances with the Arctic Philharmonic Orchestra in 2019 and 2020, serving as principal cellist of the Norwegian Young Philharmonic Orchestra in 2021 and 2023, and appearing on Norwegian national radio with his former string quartet.

At the beginning of his studies, Teo joined the Amaris String Quartet, an active ensemble performing regularly across the Netherlands. In 2025, the quartet was accepted into the NSKA (Nederlandse Strijkkwartet Academie), where they had the opportunity to work closely with some of the world’s leading string quartets and musicians, including Marc Danel (Danel Quartet), Pierre Colombet (Quatuor Ébène), and Gerhard Schulz (Alban Berg Quartet).

In 2026, the Amaris String Quartet reached several important milestones, including participation in the Schiermonnikoog Festival, a performance in the main hall of TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht, and an invitation to perform at the Wonderfeel Festival in June.

Despite his young age, Teo has performed concerts with several distinguished musicians and conductors, including Eldbjørg Hemsing, István Várdai, Ilan Volkov and Mei-Ann Chen. He is also an active participant in masterclasses and has performed for renowned artists such as Jakob Koranyi, Torleif Thedéen, Natasha Brofsky, Leonard Elschenbroich and Pierre Colombet.
